## Frequently Asked Questions

### What is KnowNote?

KnowNote is a desktop workspace that lets you read, question, and understand your own documents locally. It runs on Windows x64 and macOS Apple Silicon, requiring no Docker, server, or user account, and all data—including documents, notebooks, and embeddings—stays on your machine. The built‑in embedder creates embeddings offline, and retrieval is performed locally, supporting multilingual queries. The app records the exact passage each answer originates from, providing traceable citations that link back to the source text. You can import PDFs, DOCX, PPTX, or web pages, ask questions in your own words, and build structured notes beside the sources. Any compatible LLM endpoint—such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or a local server like Ollama—can be added, with credentials stored locally. This design emphasizes privacy, reproducibility, and transparent evidence for every answer. GateOnAI Score: 67/100.
