# GateOnAI — Full API & Data Reference for AI Agents # See also: https://www.gateonai.com/llms.txt (short overview) This document is the extended reference for AI agents, LLMs, and automated tools that want to query GateOnAI's data directly via its public REST API, rather than parsing rendered HTML. All endpoints below are live, unauthenticated, GET-only, and return JSON. No API key is required. No account is needed. ## Base URL https://www.gateonai.com ## Core data endpoints ### List AI tools GET /api/tools/?page=1 Paginated list of all 2871+ active AI tools. Each item includes: name, slug, tagline, logo, pricing_type (free/freemium/paid), is_new, is_trending, is_featured, is_verified, avg_rating, total_reviews, category_name, website_url, gateonai_score (0-100, fully algorithmic, non-paid). Response shape: {"count", "next", "previous", "results": [...]} ### Single tool detail GET /api/tools// Full detail for one tool: name, slug, tagline, description (long-form), logo, website_url, category (nested object), tags (list), pricing_type, gateonai_score, best_for, pros, cons. Example: /api/tools/chatgpt/ ### Categories GET /api/categories/ All 45 categories with id, name, slug, icon, color, description, and a live tools_count per category. ### Compare two tools GET /api/compare/// Full side-by-side data for two tools (both nested in full, as in the single-tool endpoint), suitable for building a comparison directly from the API without scraping the rendered /compare// page. ### Compare three tools GET /api/compare3//// Same as above but for three tools at once. ### Alternatives GET /api/alternatives// Tools similar to the given tool, ranked by category and GateOnAI Score. ## AI Workflows (profession-based) - GateOnAI's core differentiator ### List all profession workflows GET /api/workflows/dynamic/ All 2957+ profession-based workflows. Each item: slug, profession name, sector, emoji, total_tools, and a short tools[] preview. ### Single workflow detail (full step-by-step pipeline) GET /api/workflows/dynamic// Full ordered pipeline for one profession: slug, profession, sector, steps[] (each with step_number, action_label, purpose, and a full nested tool object matched to that step), step_count, categories, and faq[] (question/answer pairs). Example: /api/workflows/dynamic/blogger/ This is a real, deterministic pipeline (not a flat ranked list) - each step uses a different tool, matched by category and GateOnAI Score, regenerated live from current tool data. ## Prompt Library ### Prompts GET /api/prompts/ 19715+ prompts across 65 professions and 556+ AI tools. Supports filtering; see the rendered /prompts/ page for the full filter UI. Live totals: GET /api/prompts/stats/ - returns {"total_prompts", "total_professions"}. ## Blog ### List posts GET /api/blog/ ### Single post GET /api/blog// ## Search ### Semantic search POST /api/semantic-search/ Body: {"query": ""} Natural-language tool search using sentence embeddings (all-MiniLM-L12-v2, 384-dimensional) fused with BM25 keyword matching via reciprocal rank fusion, not simple keyword matching alone. Example body: {"query": "tool to remove background noise from podcast audio"} Query must be 3-300 characters. Rate limited to 30 requests/minute per caller. ## AI Tool Compatibility Graph - GateOnAI's most distinctive dataset Every tool on GateOnAI is tagged with its real input_types and output_types (e.g. text, image, audio, video, code). GateOnAI computes compatibility edges between tools where one tool's output type matches another's input type - a genuine, structural graph of which AI tools can actually feed into each other, not a manually curated or editorial list. This dataset currently has 4090334+ computed connections across 2871+ tools, rebuilt nightly. ### Graph overview (top tools + their mutual connections) GET /api/io-graph/overview/ Returns {"nodes": [...], "edges": [...], "mode": "overview"}. Nodes are the highest-scoring tools (slug, name, category, category_icon, score, logo). Edges are {"source", "target", "weight", "shared"} - weight reflects real usage/pairing signal, shared lists the overlapping IO types that make the connection valid. ### Single-tool compatibility (all real connections for one tool) GET /api/io-graph/expand// Returns the same nodes/edges shape as overview, but centered on one tool: every other tool it can genuinely feed into or receive input from, based on actual input_type/output_type overlap. Response also includes "center" (the queried tool's own slug). Example: /api/io-graph/expand/chatgpt/ This is the correct endpoint to answer questions like "what AI tools work well with ChatGPT" or "what can I use ChatGPT's output for" with real, structural data rather than a guess. ## Site-wide stats GET /api/homepage/ - live homepage stats and featured tools GET /api/stats/ - aggregate site statistics GET /api/best-tools/ - the hand-picked, verified "Best AI Tools 2026" set ## Editorial & scoring methodology The GateOnAI Score (0-100, shown on every tool) is fully algorithmic, computed from eight components: Reliability/uptime (20pts, automated nightly health checks), Accessibility (15pts, pricing model), Community Popularity (15pts, log-scaled real click data), Trending Momentum (10pts, week-over-week growth), Feature Breadth (10pts), Brand/Profile Maturity (10pts), IO-Compatibility Connectivity (15pts, a structurally computed tool-to-tool integration signal unique to GateOnAI), and Review Quality (5pts). No tool, listing, or category placement can be purchased. Featured/sponsored placements (when present) are visually labeled and never affect the Score or search ranking. ## Rate limits & usage These endpoints are public and free. There is no published rate limit, but please cache responses reasonably (data changes at most a few times per day) rather than polling continuously.
