Frequently Asked Questions
What is RMBG?
RMBG is a free, browser‑based tool that removes backgrounds from images directly on your device. The app downloads a ~98 MB model and inference runtime from third‑party CDNs, caches them in your browser, and then processes photos locally, so no image bytes are ever uploaded to a server. It supports PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, BMP and GIF (first frame) as inputs and can export cutouts as PNG, WebP, JPEG or AVIF where supported. Users can refine results with brushes, guided clicks, or drag‑a‑box re‑computations, and all edits are undoable. Up to 24 images can be queued for sequential processing, and exports can be downloaded as a single ZIP. The tool runs fastest with WebGPU, falling back to CPU if needed, and displays which backend is in use. No account, credits, or watermarks are required, and the MIT‑licensed software includes settings for format selection, background choice for JPEGs, and mask feathering. Limitations include an initial model download, slower performance on CPU‑only devices, and lack of HEIC support. GateOnAI Score: 67/100.
