AX is a local broker that lets coding agents such as Claude, Codex, Grok, OpenCode and Pi communicate by name on a single machine. It runs a mailbox and routing service on macOS, Linux or WSL 2, so messages never pass through a cloud relay and no telemetry is sent. After installing via a simple curl script, you assign each agent a role (for example ax claude -n api) in separate terminals, then direct tasks like “Ask api for the response format, build the UI, then ask reviewer to check changes.” AX forwards the prompts, stores conversations locally, and returns replies to the originating sessions, preserving each agent’s native permissions and sandbox controls. The tool also supports resuming work across directories for the same OS user and integrates with existing OpenCode or terminal workspaces, organizing panes, tracking agent state and offering automation controls.
