Local-first open-source knowledge management OS for AI-native teams
Brainstorm is a local‑first, AI‑native operating system for knowledge management that runs your apps, data, and AI on your own machine. It presents a desktop‑style interface with a wallpaper, app icons, and windows, where each icon is a sandboxed app such as Notes, Database, Files, Graph, calendar or code editor. All apps share a single vault of plain‑file documents stored on your disk, so a note created in one app appears as a row in another without copying or exporting. Sync is optional and uses end‑to‑end encrypted Yjs CRDTs, with no account required and the relay only sees scrambled bytes. The shell brokers every AI call, letting you use your own API key or a locally‑run model, and you can set per‑app budgets and explicit permissions for each agent. Customisation options like database views, layouts, shortcuts and themes are personal by default, and can be shared with a team when desired.
